Description

A wild Kee Boar appears! The KB2040 is an Arduino Pro Micro-shaped board designed for mechanical keyboards using the powerful RP2040 microcontroller, perfect for keeb builds with CircuitPython support.

This board features a nearly identical pinout to the Pro Micro, making it easy to use without adapters. It fits a 2-layer PCB design with compact 0402 components and offers extensive I/O options for building keyboards from 5×15 common layouts up to 100-key matrices.

  • Same size and form-factor as a Pro Micro breakout, measuring 1.3″ x 0.7″ without headers
  • RP2040 32-bit Cortex M0+ dual-core processor running at ~125 MHz with 264 KB RAM and 8 MB SPI FLASH for code and file storage
  • 20 GPIO pins available—18 on castellated pins plus 2 on the STEMMA QT I2C port compatible with SparkFun Qwiic
  • Four 12-bit ADCs, two I2C, two SPI, two UART peripherals, and 16 PWM outputs suitable for LEDs and servos
  • Onboard RGB NeoPixel and green power LED for status indication
  • Bootloader select and reset buttons included; bootloader button can also serve as a generic GPIO input
  • 3.3V regulator with 500mA peak current output and RAW output for powering 5V devices with an option to bypass fuse for up to 2A
  • USB Type-C connector for built-in ROM USB bootloader and serial debugging support
  • Extra D+ and D- breakouts for alternative USB connection options

The board is ideal for keyboard enthusiasts looking for a low-cost, powerful RP2040-based controller compatible with existing Pro Micro footprints and equipped with modern conveniences like USB-C and Stemma QT connectors.
