Description
The Adafruit AMG8833 IR Thermal Camera FeatherWing adds heat-vision capability to any Feather main board using the Panasonic AMG8833 8×8 GridEYE sensor. This sensor returns an 8×8 array of infrared temperature readings over I2C, allowing the creation of your own mini thermal camera or human detector.
This part can measure temperatures ranging from 0°C to 80°C (32°F to 176°F) with an accuracy of ±2.5°C (4.5°F), and it can detect a human from up to 7 meters away. With a maximum frame rate of 10Hz, combined with a fast Feather board such as ESP8266, ESP32, or Teensy, you can interpolate the 8×8 grid for enhanced results.
The AMG8833 sensor supports I2C communication and has a configurable interrupt pin that triggers when individual pixels exceed a threshold. Pair this FeatherWing with a TFT FeatherWing and stackin’ headers (not included) for a full thermal camera demo.
