Description

Introducing the I2S MEMS Microphone Breakout, a super tiny, high-quality microphone that offers a digital output instead of the traditional analog. This MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) microphone is compact and efficient, designed to detect sound and convert it into digital audio data via I2S (Inter-IC Sound) protocol. It covers a frequency range of 50Hz to 15KHz, making it suitable for general audio recording and sound detection in a variety of projects.

Key Features:

  • Digital Output via I2S: Unlike classic microphones with analog outputs, this MEMS mic sends digital audio data, eliminating the need for analog-to-digital conversion and minimizing noise interference.
  • Small and Efficient: The MEMS design allows for a super small and thin microphone, ideal for space-constrained projects.
  • Mono Sound: It records in mono, but you can select whether it’s for the Left or Right channel by adjusting the Select pin. For stereo sound, simply use two microphones, wiring them in a way that each mic is set to the desired channel (one to high voltage, the other to ground).
  • Frequency Range: 50Hz – 15KHz, suitable for most general audio recording and detection tasks.
  • Low Voltage: Operates within a range of 1.6V to 3.6V, making it compatible with lower voltage microcontrollers and SBCs.
  • Easy Integration with I2S: Perfect for modern microcontrollers like Cortex M-series chips (Arduino Zero, Feather M0) and single-board computers like the Raspberry Pi, which have I2S peripherals for handling digital audio.

Ideal For:

  • Audio Detection Projects: Perfect for applications like sound-based control systems, audio logging, or voice-activated projects.
  • Compact Designs: Thanks to its MEMS technology, this microphone is small enough to fit in tight spaces, making it great for portable or embedded audio applications.
  • Noise-Free Audio: The digital I2S output ensures a cleaner signal than analog microphones, especially when working with modern microcontrollers that support digital audio.

Additional Details:

  • Bottom Ported Design: Make sure the microphone’s port faces outward toward the sound source to capture clear audio.
  • Not for 5V Logic: This microphone operates at a lower voltage range (1.6V to 3.6V), so it’s not suitable for 5V logic systems.
  • Easy to Wire: The I2S interface only requires three digital pins: Clock, Data, and Left-Right (Word Select) Clock. The microcontroller or single-board computer’s I2S controller will handle data retrieval at high frequency.

Whether you’re building a voice recognition system, sound-triggered project, or just exploring audio detection, this I2S MEMS Microphone Breakout provides a simple and compact solution for high-quality digital audio input.
